Crafty Saturday

It’s a wet, rainy Saturday and what better way to spend it, than to craft! I woke up at 7am (I’ve been sleeping in lately) had my usual morning cup of tea, took my precious dog out, and went to the book store. Everytime I walk into the bookstore, I automatically walk directly to the cook books. They call my name, begging me to pick one of them up and become filled with inspiration. After I get my fill of cookbooks, I make my way over to the crafting magazines. Flipped through them with excitement towards all the crafting ideas that filled my brain. I found one I really liked called Green Crafting. It basically was upcycling crafts. I had to get that one, but then another magazine caught my eye. Have I ever told you how much I love aprons? Well I LOVE aprons, lots of aprons, vintage, ruffled, cute aprons. I saw a magazine with SO MANY apron patterns to make. I had a dilemma, which magazine do I buy? I put them both back and walked away, making my way up the escalator to the kids section. Why did I go up there? I don’t know, I tend to find myself in the kids section. Then I got a call from a special friend, and ended up talking to him for about an hour. The funny thing is, what all I do when I’m talking on the phone.

So I’m in the kids section, with little chairs, toys, and books. While I’m on the phone, I’m wandering aimlessly around the store. Picking up stuffed animals, walking on the little chairs and jumping off, fixing the book shelves and reorganizing them, running my finger along the shelves “dusting” them. Rearranging the stuffed animals so they are all hugging each other. I honestly wasn’t aware of anyone around me, I was so into my phone call and rearranging the book store. At one point in my conversation, I sat down at the kids table next to a little girl. I probably scared her. I’m sure most of you wander around when talking on the phone. Right? When I’m at home, I tend to walk on my furniture, jumping from chair to chair. Who doesn’t do that?? Anyways, after I got off the phone I headed back downstairs back to the magazines, I ended up grabbing the Green Crafting magazine. I’ll come back for the other one another day. One magazine at a time!

This week I went to this little fabric store in our town, walking distance from my house. I picked out some fabric to sew a pillow case. I actually love going to the fabric store. There are so many different types of fabrics, different colors, and designs. It’s all very exciting.

My room is painted a greenish, blue gray color. I actually “made it”. I had a base color that I didn’t like very much. So when I was at the paint store I kept telling the guy to add different colors to the mix, which resulted in a very pretty color. I accent with white and gray. So when I was picking out my new pillow case fabric, I wanted to bring all the colors together into one, with some cute patterns.

The above picture, are the fabrics I chose. See the little pin holder? I made that, isn’t it cute with the little heart pins? I’m really excited to get started on this! I even have my own sewing machine now.

If you notice with my room, the colors of fabric I picked are going to really tie in the space. I gradually work on my room, adding different touches to make it cozy. I added a family tree on my wall with picture frames which will eventually hold pictures of my family. I still need to finish that. My room is a little dark, so I put up 6 small dark gray mirrors near the window, to reflect more light into the room. And I hung long gray drapes, adding an elegant, cozy look.

You’ll also find owls slightly hidden around my room. This owl is a white, ceramic light. Isn’t is cute!?

After I finish my pillow case, I’m planning on sewing some more aprons (to add to my collection) and reupholstering an ottoman with fabric that goes with my room better. I’m pretty excited! I’m also going to try to take different classes, ranging from line dancing, glass blowing, candle making, cooking, and oil painting. Plus my birthday is in 2 weeks! Very exciting!

Well, I’m going to start working on some crafts and cook. Hope you have a wonderful Saturday!

Crafty, creative goodbyes,

Emma
