First try – Gluten Free, Vegan bagels – Failed…

Well, I did it. I tried to make up my own version of gluten-free, vegan bagels. I am ashamed to say they didn’t turn out how I was hoping. Now we have a broken window. You may notice I have the perfect thumb on my left hand for making holes in the bagel. I know, pretty awesome. I actually had 7 fractures in my left hand, and broke all of my fingers and thumb. However my thumb was never looked at and now it is permanently stuck, looking like a toe. I often tell people it is the toe off of my foot. They believe me…

I know what I need to change to possibly make the bagels work the next time. Which is just grand. They did taste good, so that’s all that matters. The consistency was more like dried play dough, not so good. I’m not going to post the recipe until it’s perfect, so when you make it, it will turn out right the first time. Now isn’t that nice?

A few things I need to adjust:

1) Less buckwheat flour more sorghum flour

2) Let the dough rise only 1 hour, first.

3) Rub oil all over the dough before it rises.

4) Let the dough, once formed into bagels, rise 30 min to an hour.

So those are the only things I need to fix, hopefully that will solve the play dough consistency.

I did take pictures of the whole process, I will share that with you. Since I have nothing else to share. You can’t have a delicious masterpiece without a few mistakes. Without mistakes, how can you improve, in anything? I sure couldn’t, the millions of mistakes I make a day help me improve. At least I think so…Maybe…
